Responses of SAD patients to outpatient treatment using different wavelengths of light will be evaluated this fall and winter by researchers at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and McLean. Healthy adults aged 18-64 who develop clinical depressions regularly in the fall or winter, which improve in the spring, will be treated on an outpatient basis for three weeks with exposure to bright artificial light. The daily light treatments can be done at home; equipment and supervision will be provided free of charge.
The screening and research requires approximately 6 weeks and will include a physical examination. Participants will be asked to come in for a minimum of 6 appointments.
