What is NLST?
- NLST is a cancer screening clinical trial, which will compare two ways of detecting lung cancer: CAT scan and standard chest x-ray.
- The participants will be randomized to the x-ray or CAT scan, which will be performed 3 times at annual intervals.
- Detected nodules greater than 4mm will have follow up CAT scans. The participants insurance will be billed for follow up CAT scans. Limited funds are available for participants not covered by insurance.
- In addition the impact on quality of life and cost will be assessed. Recruiting will be active for the next two years.
General Eligibility Criteria
- Smoke currently or quit < 15 years ago
- No current cancer treatment
Physician and healthcare providers are encouraged to refer any individuals that may fill the criteria.
