Conference time is protected educational time for the residents, and resident attendance is expected except when direct patient care may be compromised or absence from a procedure would diminish the resident's educational experience. Section-specific small group case conferences are held in the mornings at 8am on most clinical services. Residency-wide conferences occurring later in the day are listed below. See the conference schedule for example days and times. Conference details are updated online for access by residents in the program. Lunchtime Conferences (Daily 12:15pm- 1:00pm and 1:00pm-2:00pm)
Two conferences are provided for the entire resident body each day. These conferences may be didactic lectures, or case conferences where individual residents are asked to discuss the findings and differential diagnosis of an unknown case, with guidance from the faculty member providing the conference. Monday and Tuesday conferences are unique and are discussed below. Monday Conferences (Mondays 12:15pm-1pm and 1:00pm-2:00pm)
Monday conferences include the following: Radiology-Pathology Correlation Conference (Twice per month, 12:15pm-1:00pm) is supervised by various staff. Quality Management conference is held once each month to provide an open and non-punitive discussion of so-called “missed” cases, near misses, or system-wide issues that deserve attention. Research Conference (12:15pm-1:00pm) is held across the street at the Harvard Medical School on the first Monday of each month. Life Lessons conference (12:15pm-1:00pm) is held monthly, where residents learn about and discuss non-clinical topics such as malpractice issues, financial planning, informed consent, conflict resolution, etc.
Lunch is served at Monday conferences. Radiology Grand Rounds (Tuesdays Noon-1:00pm)
Radiology Grand Rounds brings invited experts in the field of radiology to speak to the department. This conference is open to the entire faculty and staff at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The second hour of conference from 1pm to 2pm is usually a case conference, where the Grand Rounds speaker shows unknown cases to the residents. Visiting Radiologists (Third Friday of each month, 12:15pm-1:00pm)
Visiting Radiologists are usually alumni of the program who are working in the Boston area. One lecturer comes each month to discuss interesting cases with the residents. Refreshments are provided. Pediatrics Conference (Mondays 5:00pm-6:00pm and Fridays 7:45am-8:30am)
Pediatric genitourinary conference on Monday evenings and pediatric neuroradiology conference on Friday mornings are open to all Brigham radiology residents, though only those residents rotating on the Pediatric Radiology rotation are expected to attend. |
