Senior Electives AbdomenTumor Ablation - An Advanced Abdominal Imaging and Intervention Elective. The Division of Abdominal Imaging and Intervention is offering an advanced rotation for senior radiology residents who wish to gain experience with percutaneous tumor ablations. The Tumor Ablation Program has performed over 600 ablation procedures in a variety of organs systems including the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and musculoskeletal system. Both radiofrequency ablations and cryoablation procedures are performed under CT and MRI guidance. The resident will participate actively in the performance of the procedures as well as in the pre and post procedure evaluation of patients referred for ablation. Residents will participate in ablation rounds, two clinic sessions, and perform two to four ablation procedures per week. Knowledge gained during this rotation include a thorough understanding of the clinical utility of ablation, how the procedures are performed, how the patients are prepared and followed when the procedure is complete. Opportunities for research are also included. Abdominal MRI – Dedicated abdominal MR imaging.
Breast- Breast Imaging Advanced Elective – Opportunity to explore advanced techniques in Breast MRI Imaging and Biopsies. Specifics to be discussed with Dr. Raza prior to the elective.
ChestChest MRI/Biopsies - Senior Elective in Thoracic Imaging. The fourth year senior elective will capitalize on areas less emphasized in the core rotations. These areas include Interventional work and Thoracic MRI. The senior resident will be guaranteed at least half of all interventional work while on the elective. This will include the screening, planning, and scheduling of the biopsy and “rounding” on the patient with the attending Radiologist who will be performing the biopsy. The resident will be expected to check all labs on the morning of the procedure consent the patient and perform the biopsy with supervision. In regards to thoracic MRI, we read brachial plexus MRI for oncology referrals and we read all chest MRI for all pathologies. The resident will learn to protocol these appropriately as well. Senior residents will also be expected to participate in the less glamorous areas of thoracic radiology life as well. Some senior residents want only to brush up on plain film and CT work and this is obviously welcomed as well.
