Special Pathways
Brigham and Women's Radiology Residency Program supports three specialized pathways for those who are interested in a specific career. In addition to the standard diagnostic radiology program, residents can apply for the Holman, DIRECT, or PEDRAP programs.

| Holman Research Pathway |
For applicants who are interested in a research-oriented career, the Holman Research Pathway offers 21-24 months of research time during the 5 years of total training. During these research months, residents devote one day per week to clinical radiology training.

Applicants who wish to pursue a career in interventional radiology can apply for the DIRECT Pathway during medical school or after two years of clinical training in other disciplines. This 6-year program combines two years of clinical training, 27 months of diagnostic radiology training, 9 months of non-fellowship interventional radiology training, and a 1-year fellowship in interventional radiology. | PEDRAP (Pediatric Emphasis Diagnostic Radiology Alternative Pathway) |
|
Brigham and Women's Radiology Residency proudly offers a specialized pathway with emphasis on pediatric radiology via Children's Hospital Boston. This 5-year pathway combines 1 year of internship, 2 years of pediatric-oriented radiology training, and 2 years of adult-oriented radiology training. The additional training in pediatric radiology is distributed over nine disciplines of radiology within the pediatric specialty. An extra year of practice is required to be eligible to take the subspecialty examination. Currently, Drs Michele Walters and Christopher Brennan are participating in this program.
