Hematology Division
The research activities of the Division of Hematology include both clinical and laboratory research. Current focus areas of research programs include transcriptional regulation of neutrophil-specific gene expression (Nancy Berliner); hemoglobin structure and function (H. Franklin Bunn); mediation of cell-surface receptors (James Cunningham); pathosphysiology of myelodysplasia (Benjamin Ebert); study of phospholipids in the activation of blood coagulation factors (Gary Gilbert); leukomegenesis in humans (D. Gary Gilliland); biophysical imaging technology (David Golan); genetics of platelet production (Robert Handin) and fundamental hematopoieses using the zebrafish model (Barry Paw).
In addition to agency funding, the division has received grants from private individuals and from the Gorin Foundation.
