OPRC Peer Mentor Program and Open House
ARE YOU A NEW POSTDOC AT BWH ?
Beginning a postdoctoral fellowship can be an exciting and challenging time. Learning to navigate a large and complex organization like BWH, while simultaneously embarking upon your research, can be daunting if not overwhelming. To help our newest postdocs during this transition, the OPRC has developed the Peer Mentor Program (PMP) for new postdocs to network with experienced postdocs. New postdocs are invited to a luncheon at their Orientation, and via a follow-up email. We welcome all postdocs to take part in this program to listen and observe.
WHAT POSTDOCS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE PMP:
"The senior postdoc I met was open to any questions and answered in great detail. It was a really nice meeting full of good advice for my work."
"I enjoyed it very much. I felt that it was a comfortable and relaxed environment in which to discuss topics of interest to new postdocs."
"I thought it was fun and casual. Senior postdocs spoke freely and shared their experiences."
SCHEDULE OF LUNCHEONS 2008-2009:
Please register via the BWH Event calendar, and a confirmation and a reminder will be sent closer to the date:
BWH POSTDOC LEADERS: We need your help!
We are looking for a diverse group of Postdoc Leaders, representative of many disciplines, areas of expertise, and physical locations, who have been at BWH for 2 or more years to volunteer as Peer Mentors. We invite you to attend one networking luncheon, a one time commitment of about one and a half hours, where new postdocs and Postdoc Leaders can become acquainted. Thereafter, junior postdocs may contact postdoc leaders periodically and we ask you to be available to them on a more informal basis. We look forward to your participation and think you will find this to be a rewarding experience. If you know a new BWH postdoc, please tell them about this program.
Have you attended a recent OPRC Peer Mentor Program Lunch ? Please give us your feedback!
Please contact Caroline Rotondi with any questions.
