David M. Lee Laboratory

David M. Lee, MD, PhD Dr. Lee practices medicine and pursues basic research in autoimmune diseases, particularly
inflammatory arthritis, as an academic rheumatologist. He enjoys numerous aspects of clinical
practice, both in the inpatient and outpatient arenas, finding the personal interaction that occurs
in the patient-physician relationship gratifying. His chosen clinical subspecialty was rheumatology
because of personal interest, and because of his basic science interests in immunology. The major
focus of his efforts will be in the arena of basic research in autoimmune diseases; he is currently
investigating mechanisms of inflammatory arthritis. He also participates in teaching at Harvard
Medical School affiliated courses, lecturing to medical residents at Brigham and Women’s Hospital,
and to Physician Assistant students at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
More informal opportunities to teach occur with medical student and residents in the context of
the BWH Rheumatology Consult Service.
