CCI Clinical Research Educational Offerings

The Center for Clinical Investigation offers educational services designed to promote high quality clinical research at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Seminars are planned throughout the academic year. A range of workshops are offered to help train new research nurses, coordinators, and assistants on how to conduct clinical studies.

In addition, CCI offers ongoing continuing education sessions for physician investigators, research nurses and coordinators, and other clinical research staff who want to increase their knowledge regarding good clinical practices and current methods for performing high quality clinical research.

These courses are free of charge, and frequently offer CME/CEU credits. Registration is required for our courses. Please read the CCI Registration Policies when enrolling.

For Physician Investigators (PIs):

  • BWH Introduction to Clinical Research Course: An intensive two day course of lectures and small breakout group discussions on the fundamentals of clinical research for advanced residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Held once yearly in fall: October 21 & 22, 2010.
  • Extended Courses/Series: Throughout the year, the CCI puts together more intensive courses that address topics like biostatistics, genetics, imaging, epidimiology and more. 
General Education - For PIs & Study Staff:

  • CCI Lecture Series: Each month, various topics and clinical research resources are presented to the broad research community.
  • IRB Roundtable Series: Every other month, IRB staff engages in an informal discussion with the community.
  • Orientation to the CCI Research Units: Overviews the resources available for conducting clinical research on the Center for Clinical Investigation units: 9A, 9B, CTC and/or the ACC and how to use them. More on CCI Resources.
  • REDCap: Research Electronic Data Capture: Introductory sessions for new users as well as hands-on training sessions are available throughout the year. More on REDCap
  • RPDR: Research Patient Data Registry: Lectures for new and experienced RPDR users as well as hands-on trainings are offered throughout the year. More on RPDR
  • Networking Events: Put faces to names of the clinical resarch community at BWH.
For Study Staff - Study Coordinators, Research Nurses & Research Assistants:

  • Study Coordinator Orientation: Trains study staff how to navigate the research system and various resources that aid in the conduct of clinical studies at BWH. Three sessions held yearly, Winter, Spring & Fall: Next begins September 22, 2010.
  • Clinical Skills & Phlebotomy Trainings: For study staff with no prior clinical training. Held in partnership with the BWH Department of Nursing Center for Nursing Excellence.

CCI Registration Policy: In brief: registration is required and monitored closely. Registered seats are only held for 15 minutes after the program begins.  Please notify CCI if you are unable to attend a course you registered for. Read the full policy.

CCI Waitlist Policy: In brief: space is often limited by course type/room capacity.  Waitlisted individuals will be notified if space becomes available. Unclaimed registered seats are opened to waitlisted individuals beginning 15 minutes after the start of the program.  Read the full policy.

CCI Certificate Policy: In brief: participants may only receive a certificate of attendance if the program is completed in its entirety.  Read the full policy.
