Nursing and Clinical Research Technician services
Nursing and Clinical Research Technician services support the clinical care as well as the research activities on the CCI inpatient and outpatient areas. This group includes RNs, nursing assistants, clinical research technicians and Co-op students.
Services
Nursing assessment and monitoring is provided 24 hours a day; 7 days a week
Study Preparation:
Meeting with Nurse Manager as study protocol is prepared for IRB and CCI submission ensures smooth coordination and implementation of services.
Staff will assist in establishing study worksheets
Staff with consult with Investigators and staff to ensure accurate and appropriate service
Study procedures:
Some examples of procedures available through the Nursing Services include
12lead electrocardiogram
IV placement and infusions
venapuncture for blood drawing
serial blood drawing via IV access
investigational medication administration
biological specimen collections
timed sample collections
temperature online collection
EEG/PSG lead application and data collection
study participant education/training.
Nursing and Technician services adhere to BWH and Nursing Policies and Procedures ensuring that study participant receives quality care and that all research activities meet regulatory requirements including National Patient Safety Goals.
Research Doctors planning to admit participants to the CCI should check that their Brigham and Women's Hospital admitting and clinical privileges are active and up to date.
All inpatient study participants are considered Hospital patients and must be entered by the admitting Doctor into the BWH physician order entry system which includes PAML (pre-admit medication list), admit orders, allergies, and discharge orders.
