Research Overview
The BWH Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care conducts health services research focused on quality of care, access to care and clinical epidemiologic studies of common medical conditions. Division faculty members study the measurement of quality and safety, and how they can be improved, especially using information technology. This multidisciplinary research includes experts in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics and health services research as well as nursing and pharmacy. We collaborate closely with Partners Information Systems on the development, implementation, and evaluation of new technologies (e.g. computerized physician order entry, clinical decision support, and personal health records). Access to care, especially for minorities and the uninsured, is also a key research focus. Our faculty members have received recognition from a wide array of organizations ranging from the Institute of Medicine to Boston Magazine.
