Food
Patient meals: The creation of the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center presented the opportunity to develop a menu for heart and vascular patients that features high-quality, low-fat, and flavorful dishes. The hospital enlisted the help of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), an internationally renowned college for the culinary arts. Focusing on the science of nutrition, they developed wholesome recipes using heart-conscious cooking techniques. The new menu, which includes delightful dishes such as Thai-chicken salad, mushroom and barley soup with hazelnuts, and pear cranberry oat crisp, will be available throughout the hospital.
Public Café: The Natural Foods Café (opening late summer 2008) within the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center also features a menu of natural foods known to be beneficial to health.
Telephone Access
Family and friends may obtain a patient's bedside phone number by calling Patient Information at (617) 732-5500. All phone numbers in the Shapiro Cardiovascular Center have a new area code and exchange, which is (857) 307-xxxx.
