Internship Opportunities at the Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE)
Overview: The Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE) fosters the support and coordination of training, research, and service to reduce disparities in disease burden and to improve treatment outcomes both at home and abroad. The Division focuses on infectious diseases (e.g., HIV and tuberculosis) as well as non-infectious diseases (e.g., coronary artery disease, diabetes, addiction) and other health problems (that disproportionately affect populations in the developing world) of major importance to society.
There are also several opportunities over the course of the year to participate in events hosted by any of the four pillars of institutional support: DGHE, Francois Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights (Harvard School of Public Health), Department of Global Health and Social Medicine (Harvard Medical School), and Partners In Health. There also may be some opportunities to explore outside interests related to the projects with which the organizations are involved. However, the priority of the intern should be their work at the DGHE.
Note: 1) Undergraduate, recent graduate or master's candidate only 2) Related international experience preferred but not required

Job Opportunities at the Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE)
Postdoctoral Position in Mathematical Modeling and Statistical Methods for Infectious Diseases
We are currently seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (DGHE; Harvard Medical School) and the newly founded Center of Communicable Disease Dynamics (CCDD; Harvard School of Public Health) in Boston, Massachusetts USA to work in a collaborative setting with a multidisciplinary team of mathematical modelers, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians an NIH-funded, multi-year project to investigate new approaches for surveillance of multidrug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug resistant (XDR) tuberculosis.
The emergence of highly drug resistant forms of M. tuberculosis pose a substantial threat to global TB control and there are major gaps in our ability to assess the incidence, prevalence and trends in drug resistant tuberculosis is some of the most highly affected areas. We propose that many limitations of current approaches for drug resistance surveillance may be overcome through the use of novel survey methodologies. The primary aim of this project is to develop mathematical models of tuberculosis dynamics and statistical methods to inform practical approaches for the design and analysis of tuberculosis drug resistance surveys in high-burden settings.
Candidates will have training and experience in modeling and simulation in the biological or physical sciences and an interest in infectious diseases, surveillance, and public health policy. Past experience with developing and analyzing deterministic models, individual-based (agent-based) and/or network models is desired. Candidates will have proficiency with programming languages (including for example C and/or MATLAB).
This position is for two years, with the possibility of extension.
Salary: US $44,000-$50,000 + benefits depending on experience. Start date is negotiable, but we seek to fill this position as soon as possible.
Applications: Applicants should send a CV and a letter describing their research interests with a brief summary of their Ph.D. work. A copy of any published or in press papers would be welcome. Also, please provide email addresses for two individuals who would be able to provide letters of reference.
Send applications to: Dr. Ted Cohen (tcohen@hsph.harvard.edu) Division of Global Health Equity Brigham and Women’s Hospital 651 Huntington Avenue, FXB Building, 7th floor Boston, MA 02115
