| Hamish Fraser, MBChB, MRCP, MSc, is an expert in the development and application of medical informatics and telemedicine in resource-poor settings. Originally trained in cardiology, with specialized training in medical informatics, Dr. Fraser is responsible for the design and oversight of the web-based medical record system that supports the management and monitoring of over 3000 patients in treatment for MDR-TB or HIV in Peru and Haiti. This information system manages clinical data and digital images of X-rays, has the capability to identify patterns in bacteriology results, helps to optimize medication regimens and also predicts future medication requirements. The principal investigator on the informatics sub-project for the eradication of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Dr. Fraser serves as Director of Informatics and Telemedicine for the Program in Infectious Disease and Social Change at Harvard Medical School.
