Serena Koenig, MD completed her Masters in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health in 2006, receiving all “A’s” for her coursework. She also passed her Infectious Disease Boards after completing an Infectious Disease Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospital. Despite a busy academic schedule, combined with caring for patients at Brigham and Women’s, Dr. Koenig continued her extensive work in Port-au-Prince Haiti, where she studies HIV/AIDS treatment strategies in collaboration with researchers from Cornell University. She recently completed a manuscript based on her work there that looks at costs associated with various treatment models, and she is currently working on two more studies about the use of laboratory monitoring for HIV/AIDS patients. The program with which Dr. Koenig works in Port-au-Prince was recently profiled in the prestigious publication Science as one of two projects in Haiti (the other run by Partners In Health) making measurable headway against HIV/AIDS despite significant obstacles. Dr. Koenig received her MD from the University of Washington in 1995 and completed her residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 1998. She recently completed an Infectious Disease Fellowship at BWH and Massachusetts General Hospital and is currently finishing her Masters in Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health.
