Kevin Ard, MD became interested in global health and economic disparities when he traveled to sub-Saharan Africa in 1998 and witnessed the widespread poverty and disease that is so common in the villages and schools of Botswana. Medical school gave Dr. Ard the opportunity to explore his interest in global health even further. In his fourth year, he did a rotation in India where he was able to work in the general medicine, infectious disease, community health, and leprosy divisions of a hospital in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. At the same time he completed a project which examined the interaction between patients’ mostly traditional health beliefs and those of the practitioner.
Dr. Ard earned his BA in Biology and German from Washington University in 2002 and his MD from Washington University School of Medicine in 2007.
