Elisabeth Riviello, MD hopes to be a leader and a builder of bridges between the developing and developed world, by improving the quality of health in impoverished areas. Her passion for the care of patients in resource-poor settings began when she traveled to Kenya in 1998 to investigate a few research and healthcare projects. Her desire to work in sub-Saharan Africa grew stronger in her role as a computer analyst in a Zambian Hospital and as a researcher in Bostwana during medical school. In 2006, Dr. Riviello had the opportunity to work in a hospital in Lubango, Angola. There she was able to see ER and clinic patients each day, while supervising a ward of 40 beds, including surgical, medical, and pediatric patients.
Dr. Riviello earned her BA in Government from Harvard College in 1995 and her MD from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2006. Her research includes coordinating a large workplace HIV seroprevelance study in Botswana and studying policy-based Economics at the Kennedy School of Government, including various aspects of welfare, public housing, and the impact of family structure on poverty. |
