Core Curriculum Conference / Journal Club
A system-wide teaching conference for all residents in the program is held every Monday evening at the BWH from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The aim of this conference is to cover the core curriculum in plastic surgery based on the guidelines put forth by the Association of Academic Chairmen in Plastic Surgery (AACPS). The conference is organized to cover this curriculum in a three-year cycle, so that all residents will cover the complete curriculum during the PGY 4-6 years. Selected faculty members facilitate review of the material each week. Regular slide reviews with additional faculty augment this curriculum. Residents are educated on the diagnosis, options for management, back up plans, and possible complications in the oral board-style. A Journal Club is held one night each month during this evening session. Selected articles from the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal are assigned to a group of residents as well as one of the faculty who lead a critical discussion on selected articles during the session.
