Research Profile

Dr. Gordon's work is based on translational research of thoracic cancers including statistical analysis of microarray-based gene expression data, design and optimization of novel bioassays to diagnose and predict clinical outcome in cancer, elucidation of tumor molecular markers using multiple data acquisition platforms, linking gene discovery with mechanistic studies to improve the design of current treatment regimens in cancer, and preclinical investigation/validation of novel treatment approaches in the management of thoracic cancers.

Projects

1) Designing and validating diagnostic and prognostic tests for lung cancer and mesothelioma.
2) Exploring mechanisms to overcome drug resistance in mesothelioma by examining and targeting relevant apoptotic and survival pathways.
3) Determining the effect of mesothelioma-related candidate oncogenes (identified by microarray analysis) in normal mesothelial cells or low-grade mesothelioma cell lines in culture and in an animal model.
4) Determining the frequency and abundance of simian virus 40 (SV40) in human tumor specimens and the role (if any) of this virus in the etiology and pathobiology of multiple cancers including mesothelioma.
