Research Summary

Bariatric Surgery Best Practice Recommendations

In 2006, the Massachusetts DPH, Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety and Medical Error Reduction decided to fund the formation of a second Expert Panel on Bariatric Surgery. I was asked to be on the panel and also to chair the Facilities and Equipment committee.  We reviewed a significant body of literature and recommended best practices.

Interventional Endoscopic Therapy

I have continued my work with Christopher Thompson, M.D. in the realm of interventional endoscopic techniques aimed at addressing bariatric surgical complications.

I have also worked throughout the past year on a large multi-institutional, randomized, controlled, blinded clinical trial evaluating the effectiveness of endoscopic suturing of a dilated gastrojejunostomy to address weight regain in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass patients. We functioned as the lead site.
