NIH (PI: Halperin) -- “Prostate Cancer Prevention by n-3 Unsaturated Fatty Acids” The overall goal is to identify potential biomarkers that can distinguish between BPH from prostate cancer and normal prostate using surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (SELDI-TOF) mass spectrometry. The second goal is to validate these potential biomarkers in a large context, including the use of well-characterized samples from the Medical Therapy of Prostatic Symptoms (MTOPS) clinical trial. 2. NIH-NIDDK (PI: O’Leary) -- "A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter, Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Pregabalin for the Treatment of Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CP/CPPS)." The Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital are part of the Chronic Prostatitis Collaborative Research Network (CPCRN) developing and conducting randomized clinical trials to evaluate novel therapies in patients with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS)" 3. NIH-NIDDK (PI: O’Leary) -- "A Randomized, Double-Blind, Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of 10mg Alfuzosin in the Treatment of Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CP/CPPS) in Recently-Diagnosed and/or Newly-Symptomatic Alpha-Blocker Naïve Patients" 4. NIH (PI: Liu) -- “Proteomics Approaches to Benign Prostatic Hyperlasia” In this study proteomics technologies were applied to identify potential biomarkers in urine specimens from patients with annotated clinical IC. Through the use of these technologies, the goal was to develop reliable predictive and diagnostic tools for IC. 5. GlaxoSmithKline (PI: O’Leary, 09/2003 - 03/2010) -- “A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Parallel Group Study of the Efficacy and Safety of Dutasteride 0.5mg Administered Orally Once Daily for Four Years to Reduce the Risk of Biopsy-Detectable Prostate Cancer” (Data Analysis Only) This is an international, multi-center study in men with a suspicious PSA and an initial negative prostate biopsy (conducted within the preceding six months as a result of local medical management) who are thereby at increased risk of developing prostate cancer. 7. GTx, Inc. (PI: O’Leary) -- "A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter, Efficacy and Safety Study of Toremifene Citrate for the Prevention of Prostate Cancer in Men with High Grade Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia (PIN)" (Closed Enrollment) This was an 18-month parallel group study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral, once daily dosing of 20 mg of toremifene in reducing the risk of biopsy-detectable prostate cancer in men with a history of PIN but no presence of cancer on a recent biopsy. 8. Watson Laboratories (PI: O'Leary) -- "A Multi-Center, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Investigation of Silodosin in the Treatment of Subjects with Moderate to Severe Abacterial Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome"
