The Division of Thoracic Surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) provides diagnostic and treatment services to patients with benign and malignant neoplasms and other disorders of the lung, esophagus, mediastinum and chest wall. Treatment for chronic pulmonary diseases with evaluation for single and double-lung transplantation is also available. The Division conducts the Emphysema Clinic where patients are evaluated for lung volume reduction surgery. The Division also participates in the Thoracic Oncology Program, a joint venture between Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) for treatment of malignant diseases.
The Program provides patients with evaluation by a multidisciplinary team including specialists from surgery, medical oncology, pulmonary medicine, radiation oncology, and radiology. The Division offers innovative surgical treatment with videothoracoscopy, brachytherapy and laser bronchoscopy as well as traditional surgical procedures.
