1) Sign up for a New Volunteer Orientation (NVO) by sending an email to bwhvcas@partners.org requesting desired orientation date (see NVO schedule). Space is limited and registrations are taken on a first come, first served basis. Email should include the following:
a. NVO in subject line
b. Your name
c. Contact information (daytime phone number and email address)
d. Preferred orientation date
e. Brief description of volunteer interests
2) Pre-placed volunteers, meaning volunteers who already have a relationship with a department and know where they will be volunteering, should obtain a letter from the BWH supervisor to bring with them to NVO. The letter must:
a. Be written on BWH department letterhead
b. Give a description of the duties the volunteer will be performing
c. Include volunteer’s weekly schedule (days and hours)
d. Include a start date and an end date
3) Attend entire NVO, bringing the following items:
a. Government issued picture ID (Acceptable forms of identification can be found at the end of an I-9 form, which you can view on the following website: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-9.pdf )
b. Visa information, if applicable
c. Immunization records (Volunteer Medical Screening Form may be completed by your physician; please view both pages of the form for further instruction)
d. Recent TB-test, plant and result (received within the last 90 days)
e. BWH department letter mentioned above (pre-placed volunteers only)
4) Receive clearance from BWH Occupational Health (OSSVS will facilitate this process).
5) Receive BWH ID badge and placement (OSSVS will facilitate this process).
Note: In the event that the volunteer is a minor (age 16-17) s/he will need to bring the following additional form to NVO:
a. A completed and signed Medical Screening Minor Consent Form
b. A completed and signed Massachusetts Work Permit. The form can be obtained online at the following
