Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. BWH offers many different service options and programs so that you may find the right "fit" for you. BWH volunteers range from 16 years of age to 90+ years of age and bring with them a wide variety of life and professional experiences. People choose to volunteer at BWH for many different reasons, including getting active in their community, performing school community service hours, developing skills and experience, and exploring career paths. Whatever your reason for coming aboard, BWH volunteers are an essential part of our dedication to compassionate patient care.
After completing an application process, which includes a mandatory volunteer orientation, volunteers are asked to commit three to fours hours weekly for a period of at least six months. Volunteers are expected to adhere to all BWH policies and procedures. Specifically, volunteers must follow a professional dress code, maintain patient confidentiality, comply with the hospital health clearance process, and submit to a criminal history check (CORI).
As well as the reward of aiding in the quality care of patients, volunteers are eligible to receive a meal ticket for the time they are at the hospital and discounted monthly MBTA passes. Volunteers also receive free flu shots and annual TB screenings. In addition, all volunteers are invited to attend an annual volunteer recognition ceremony.
