Brigham Performs First Face Transplant for Black Patient

In July, during a 16-hour surgery that included a team of over 45 physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists, residents and research fellows, Robert Chelsea became the first black patient — and, at age 68, the oldest — in the U.S. to receive a full face transplant in a procedure performed at the Brigham.
