NICU Care for Twins, Triplets and More

Our experts in the Comprehensive Care Center for Multiples are seeing new and existing patients virtually and in-person as needed.

Intensive Care for Multiples

Because many twins and triplets arrive early, our state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one reason that Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a chosen destination for families expecting multiples. We offer leading, comprehensive care for newborn twins, triplets and more – and the parents who care for them. Our newly renovated NICU, designed with multiples in mind, enables you to be with your babies 24/7 in private rooms for twins or adjoining rooms for triplets. Expert lactation support helps you in feeding. Through the Comprehensive Care Center for Multiples, expert lactation support helps you in feeding, and a social worker is available to support you and your family through this time. Our capabilities, plus your love, together help your babies grow and develop.

Why Choose Us When You are Expecting Multiples:

  • We are New England’s most experienced hospital for twins and triplets. More than 200 mothers deliver multiples here each year. Our Comprehensive Care Center for Multiples is designed to ensure you and your family feel healthy, confident and cared for before, during and after a multiple pregnancy. Our multidisciplinary team of experts provide clinical care, support and education to ensure you are prepared to welcome your babies.
  • Our NICU is a world leader in neurocritical care, using the most advanced techniques to enhance healing and development of the infant brain, including the world’s first in-unit MRI scanner designed specifically for infants.
  • Extremely low birthweight babies, as young as 23 weeks gestation, receive critical breathing and feeding assistance.
  • As babies grow, they move to our Growth and Development Unit, which provides gentle homelike stimulation for babies and hands-on instruction for parents to prepare you all for the transition to home.
  • A unique NICU Follow-Up Clinic assesses and supports your children from NICU discharge until kindergarten, monitoring each child’s progress and connecting you with experts if needed.
