The Division of Critical Care Neurology recognizes the importance of clinical research. The Division maintains several research protocols some of which are listed below:
ATACH-II (Condition treated: ICH)
Antihypertensive Treatment of Cerebral Hemorrhage (ATACH)
Funding Source: NIH-NINDS
Principal Investigator: Adnan Qureshi MD
Site Investigator: Sherry H-Y. Chou MD M.MSc
The major goal of this phase III randomized trial is to determine the therapeutic benefit of intensive blood pressure treatment compared to conventional blood pressure treatment in reducing death and disability in intracerebral hemorrhage patients within 4 hours of symptom onset.

Neu-START (Condition treated: Ischemic Stroke)
Neuroprotection With Statin Therapy for Acute Recovery Trial
Funding Source: NIH-NINDS
Principal Investigator: Mitchell Elkind MD MS, Ji Chong MD
Site Investigator: Steven K Feske MD

Biomarkers of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (Condition targeted: SAH)
Funding Source: NIH-NINDS, American Heart Association
Principal Investigator: Sherry H-Y. Chou MD M.MSc
The major goal of this grant/study is to use molecular biomarkers in human blood and cerebrospinal fluid to understand the pathophysiology and potentially predict of cerebral vasospasm and secondary brain injuries following subarachnoid hemorrhage, and to develop novel molecular bedside diagnostics of vasospasm and poor outcome following SAH and identify potential drug targets.
