Pancreas Transplant Research

Research in pancreas transplantation at BWH is focused on enhancing long-term outcomes for pancreas transplant recipients. In addition to research in whole organ transplantation, ongoing studies of total pancreatectomy with islet cell autotransplantation are being conducted.

Leading-edge pancreas transplant research studies at BWH include the investigation and development of novel ways to:

  • Improve organ quality and preservation;
  • Individualize anti-rejection medication after transplantation;
  • Increase the utilization of older organs.
