There are many easy and cost-effective ways to get to, from, and around BWH -- whether you are driving, bicycling, walking, or taking public transportation. BWH offers commuter benefits, such as subsidized MBTA passes, while other benefits are available to you through our membership in the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization, Inc. (MASCO), an organization of many of the hospitals and schools in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA).
For comprehensive travelers’ information, check out MASCO’s CommuteWorks Program. CommuteWorks can help you create a personalized commuting itinerary that identifies all of your travel options for your daily commute to work, including the commuter rail, subway, bus, shuttles, ridesharing, biking, and walking. Just fill out this form, and a MASCO representative will contact you.
CommuteWorks and ZipCar have teamed up to offer special discounted rates for LMA employees! Through CommuteWorks, you can join Zipcar for only $25 per year and with no application fees or security deposits, which is a significant savings off the regular membership price.
It is a good idea to get a sense of where your new workplace is located, and what routes lead there. The maps and directions that link off this page will help. The BWH Pike Map will help you find your way around the main campus once you arrive.

We are committed to making our facilities and medical services accessible to all. Find accessibility information, and nearby transportation options below:
As a BWH employee, you can save money commuting to work by purchasing a T-pass at a 50% discount, through payroll deduction of pre-tax dollars. If you are benefits eligible, you will need to enroll in the T-pass program through PeopleSoft before the second payroll deduction of the month preceding the month you will begin to receive a T-pass (e.g. to receive January's pass you would need to enroll before the second payroll deduction in December).
Once you have signed up for the T-pass program, you can receive your monthly T-pass in either of two ways:
**Please Note** As of May 1, the T pass subsidy will only be available through PeopleSoft payroll deduction and will be limited to employees who are benefits eligible (work 20 hours or more per week). Employees will no longer be able to purchase passes at the Parking Office.
The most convenient public transportation options to LMA include the MBTA green line “D” and “E” trains and several bus routes, and these are summarized here. Additional information on the D and E lines, as well as the Orange and Red lines and connecting buses, can be found here.
There is parking available throughout LMA and at satellite locations that are near public transportation. BWH's Parking and Security staff can assist you with parking lot availability. They can be reached at email@example.com or by phone at (617) 732-5877. Parking rates are relatively low, and are payable through payroll deduction. CommuteWorks offers many resources and incentive programs to encourage LMA employees to try carpooling, and to reward greener commuting choices. Employees who register carpools with CommuteWorks are eligible for:
Need help finding a carpool partner? NuRide lets you search for matches based on what time you start your commute. For second and third shift hospital employees with fewer public transportation options, carpooling is the perfect solution. After a long night of working the overnight shift, it is nice to know your carpool partner is there to help keep you safe and awake.

Not sure about swapping out your own wheels for a greener commuter option (public transit, biking, etc.)? CommuteSwap is a risk free way to leave your car at home while you try out a new commuting option.
For the ultimate healthy and green way to commute, consider walking, running, or biking to work. There are plenty of bike racks around LMA, and the CommuteFit Program offers rewarding and fun incentives, such as the opportunity to earn $50 gift cards.
BWH is offering a 50% off savings on, a limited amount of Silver Corporate memberships to BWH employees. The employee discount fee is $25.00 a membership. To obtain the BWH employee password with your employee ID number to firstname.lastname@example.org. Memberships are limited to 1 per BWH employee only.
If you walk, bike, carpool, vanpool, or take public transportation to work, you may register for the Emergency Ride Home Program (ERH), which comes to the rescue if you have an unexpected personal emergency during the work day. In such cases, when your regular commuting option does not fit your need, ERH will provide a taxi or rental car -- at no cost to you. Once registered, you can use this service up to five times a year.
The LMA Shuttle makes regularly scheduled runs to LMA institutions, along these routes. Shuttle bus service is available to all BWH employees parking at offsite lots. You can check the current location of shuttles – anytime, anywhere – on the internet or by downloading the Shuttle Tracker mobile app for smartphones. Shuttle service hours are 5:30a.m. – 8:30p.m. In addition to the MASCO shuttle service, you may also use shuttles operated by other LMA institutions, through the Shuttle All Ride Program.
For employees working night and evening shifts, BWH Security operates an employee shuttle from 3pm to 7am, 7 days a week. They will transport employees to any local public transportation station or parking garage (after the regular shuttles stop running). The shuttle hub is located at the entrance to the Shapiro Cardiovascular Building at 70 Francis Street. Employees should go to the Security Officer at the front of the Emergency Room and request that they call the shuttle.
