Bernard Jones, EdM, Vice President, Public Policy; Chief of Staff
Bernard “Bernie” Jones is the vice president of Public Policy and serves as chief of staff to the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Brigham Health. He leads government and community relations and policy development and analysis — supporting, advancing and implementing Mass General Brigham’s strategies and policy positions on behalf of Brigham Health. He also oversees the activities of the Office of the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, helping to further align and integrate clinical operations, academic support, space allocation, administrative leadership, human resources, and operational and financial performance across Brigham Health.
Jones’ career has been dedicated to serving large, complex, mission-driven organizations. Prior to joining the Brigham, he served as the deputy chief of staff to University of California President Janet Napolitano, JD, who was responsible for leading a university system that included 10 campuses, five medical centers, three affiliated national laboratories and a statewide agriculture and natural resources program. Earlier in his career, he served as a management consultant, with a practice focused on governance and leadership at universities and academic medical centers nationally. He earned a master’s degree in higher education administration, policy and research from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree in English from Haverford College.
