Ghanta Selected for NIGMS Career Development Award

Sailaja Ghanta, MD, of the Department of Pediatric Newborn Medicine, received a K08 Career Development Award from the National Institute of General Medicine (NIGMS) for her grant proposal, “Role of Autophagy in Mesenchymal Stromal Cells During Sepsis.” 

Ghanta investigates the use of mesenchymal stromal cells for the treatment of sepsis and lung injury. Her work is focused on the regulation of the inflammatory response in sepsis and lung injury and taking advantage of this process to develop potential therapies for these diseases.

NIGMS supports basic research that increases our understanding of biological processes and lays the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
