Banks Receives ACG Samuel S. Weiss Award

Peter Banks, MD, of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy, was honored with the Samuel S. Weiss Award at the American College of Gastroenterology’s (ACG) annual meeting in Philadelphia. The award is presented to a fellow of the college in recognition of outstanding career service to the ACG.

Established in commemoration of the founder of the college, Samuel S. Weiss, the award is the organization’s highest honor.

At the Brigham, Banks serves as director of the Center for Pancreatic Disease. An international authority in the field of pancreatitis, his main research interests include the identification of risk factors and new markers of severity in acute pancreatitis, newer treatment for severe pancreatitis and optimal use of imaging in pancreatic disease.

The ACG is a professional organization for gastroenterologists with over 14,000 members from 86 different countries.
