Katherine Gregory, PhD, RN, FAAN

Katherine Gregory, PhD, RN, FAAN, of the Department of Nursing and the Department of Pediatric Newborn Medicine, was inducted into 2018 class of American Academy of Nursing fellows for her outstanding contributions and achievements in nursing. This fellowship recognizes nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research.

The academy’s more than 2,400 fellows contribute their time and expertise to transforming America's health care system by enhancing the quality of health and nursing, promoting healthy aging and human development across the life continuum, reducing health disparities and inequalities and more.

In her work at the Brigham, Gregory’s research focuses on the human microbiome, specifically the intestinal microbiome of the preterm infant. Along with her colleagues, she has investigated the role that the intestinal microbiome plays in necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a catastrophic inflammatory bowel disease that is a major contributor to neonatal morbidity and morbidity. Her team has also assessed the influence of nutrition on the intestinal microbiome of preterm infants.

The American Academy of Nursing serves the public and the nursing profession by advancing health policy, practice and science through organizational excellence and effective nursing leadership.
