Charles Dimitroff, PhD
Charles Dimitroff, PhD, of the Department of Dermatology, received a one-year, 7 million yen grant (approximately $60,000) from the Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience for his project, “Functional Analysis of Human Endothelial Cell Galectin-9 on Human B Cells.”
Dimitroff will investigate how the immunoregulator galectin (Gal)-9 influences the functional activity of B-lymphocytes, also known as B cells. Understanding Gal-9’s effects on B cells will open new research directions as to how we can better develop effective vaccines or, alternatively, how to therapeutically control B-cell malignancies.
The mission of Mizutani Foundation is to support glycobiology investigators worldwide by funding basic studies on glycoconjugates, a type of carbohydrate compound with diverse functions in the body.
