Yang Awarded Robert W. Katzman, MD Clinical Research Training Scholarship

Hyun-Sik Yang, MD, of the Department of Neurology, was selected for the 2019 Robert W. Katzman, MD Clinical Research Training Scholarship in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research to support his project, “Immunogenetic Alzheimer’s Disease Risk and the Progression of Preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease.”

Funded by the Alzheimer’s Association and American Brain Foundation, in collaboration with the American Academy of Neurology, this award aims to recognize the importance of good clinical research and to encourage young investigators in clinical studies related to Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Distributed over two years, the $150,000 scholarship is named in memory of renowned neurologist and advocate Robert Katzman, MD, who reshaped the way Alzheimer’s is understood by medical professionals, patients and society at large.  

Using neuroimaging technologies to measure Alzheimer's disease pathology in living persons, Yang seeks to seeks to reveal how genetic variants that can affect immune cell function are related to Alzheimer’s disease pathology and the progression of cognitive decline in early stages of the disease.
