Vaduganathan Earns First Place in ACC's Young Investigator Award Competition

Muthiah Vaduganathan, MD, MPH

Muthiah Vaduganathan, MD, MPH, a fellow in Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was awarded first place in the Young Investigator Award competition in the category of in Clinical Investigations at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Annual Scientific Sessions for his project, “B-Type Natriuretic Peptide During Treatment with Sacubitril/Valsartan: The PARADIGM-HF Trial.” The work was simultaneously published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology with the meeting presentation.

The Young Investigator Awards competition encourages and recognizes young scientific investigators of promise, upon whom progress in the field of cardiology is dependent.

Vaduganathan’s study examined the effect of sacubitril/valsartan, a recent therapy available for patients with heart failure, on natriuretic peptides, commonly measured biomarkers used in risk prediction. His team leveraged data from the pivotal clinical trial PARADIGM-HF that supported the therapy’s regulatory approval.

The ACC envisions a world where innovation and knowledge optimize cardiovascular care and outcomes. As the professional home for the entire cardiovascular care team, the mission of the College and its more than 52,000 members is to transform cardiovascular care and to improve heart health.
