Haas-Kogan, Punglia Selected as ASTRO Fellows

Daphne Haas-Kogan, MD, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Rinaa Punglia, MD, MPH, also of Radiation Oncology, were honored by the American Society for Radiation Oncology with its prestigious ASTRO Fellow designation in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the field of radiation oncology through research, education, patient care and service.

Since its inception in 2006, the ASTRO Fellow designation has been awarded to just 353 of ASTRO’s more than 10,000 members worldwide. Haas-Kogan and Punglia, who are among 26 fellows inducted into the 2019 class, were recognized during ASTRO’s 61st Annual Meeting in Chicago this September.

A respected researcher and clinician, Haas-Kogan studies new therapeutic agents for adult and childhood brain tumors and other pediatric cancers. Punglia, a radiation oncologist and physician-scientist at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, focuses her research on the comparative effectiveness of breast cancer treatments, specifically decision aids and cost-effectiveness analyses.

The American Society for Radiation Oncology is the world’s largest radiation oncology society, with more than 10,000 members who are physicians, nurses, biologists, physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and other health care professionals who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies.
