Seltzer Honored with 2019 Gold Medal Award for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Advocacy

Stever Seltzer accepts the 2019 Gold Medal Award.

Steven Seltzer, MD, chair emeritus of the Department of Radiology, received the 2019 Gold Medal Award from the Academy of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research for excellence in national advocacy on behalf of the imaging research community. The award recognizes extraordinary contributions in advocacy and advancing the cause of radiology research.

Established in 2014, the award provides the opportunity to raise the profile of imaging research among scientific, government and industry leaders as well as to provide recognition and encouragement for future efforts to individuals who have been successful advocates.

Seltzer has been involved in projects aimed at improving the quality, safety, productivity and cost-effectiveness of radiology services for more than two decades. As chair of Radiology from 1997 to 2016, he helped establish the Center for Evidence-Based Imaging. Outside of the Brigham, he served as chair of the Coalition for Imaging and Bioengineering Research at the Academy of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research, as well as being a member of its Board of Trustees.

The Academy of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research represents biomedical imaging researchers from major academic radiology departments across the country and serves as a bridge to patient advocacy groups and leading imaging manufacturers that share an interest in high-value imaging research.
