Brigham Investigators Honored at Society for Leukocyte Biology Annual Meeting

Members of the Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion Injury celebrate at the Society for Leukocyte Biology’s annual meeting.

Several researchers from the Center for Experimental Therapeutics and Reperfusion Injury (CET&RI) in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine were honored at the Society for Leukocyte Biology’s (SLB) 52nd Annual Meeting in Boston last fall.

Charles Serhan, PhD, DSc, director of CET&RI, was named one of the society’s 2019 Honorary Life Members. Each year, the SLB elects two individuals as Honorary Life Members as a tribute to their contributions to the knowledge of leukocyte biology. Serhan is one of 41 such members awarded this prestigious designation.

Thayse Bruggeman, PhD, and her co-investigators won a Poster Award for their project, “Phospholipid Phosphatase 6 Regulates Phagocyte Function and Immune Responses.”

Brian Sansbury, PhD, and his co-investigators won first place in the meeting’s Poster Flash Talk for their poster, “Resolvin D1 Engages Myeloid Cell-Dependent Revascularization During Ischemia via Its Receptor, ALX/FPR2.”

Luciana Tavares, PhD, and her co-investigators won a Poster Award for their project, “Maresin Conjugates in Tissue Regeneration (MCTRs) Improve Post-influenza Pneumococcal Pneumonia by Modulation of Macrophage Phenotype.”

Katherine Walker, MD, MSc, and her co-investigators won a Poster Award for their project, “Protectin D1 and Protectin Conjugate for Tissue Regeneration 1 Regulate Lung Inflammation and Viral Load During Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection.”

Based in Bethesda, Md., the SLB is a diverse community of like-minded researchers and clinicians focused on the field of immunology and all its implications, applications and practices.
