Langer Honored by American Society of Hematology

Arielle L. Langer, MD, MPH

Arielle L. Langer, MD, MPH, of the Division of Hematology, received two honors from the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in recognition of her extraordinary commitment to quality care improvement. She was named a 2020 Choosing Wisely Champion and selected for the ASH Medical Educators Institute.

The Choosing Wisely Champions initiative recognizes practitioners who have used creativity, tenacity and their knowledge of the field to achieve positive change in their practice. Langer will be invited to present at the ASH annual meeting on successful strategies she has developed and implemented in her practice — providing other medical professionals with the opportunity to learn about projects that might be translated to their own practices.

The ASH Medical Educators Institute recognized Langer for her potential to be a successful clinician educator and mentor for future generations of hematologists. Each participant of the Institute will partake in a virtual learning curriculum covering medical educator core competencies, small group peer-to-peer consulting calls and one-on-one mentorship from program faculty members.

As a researcher at the Brigham and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Langer focuses on non-malignant hematology with a particular interest in anemias and in managing patients who need coordination of hematologic and obstetric care.

With more than 18,000 members from nearly 100 countries, ASH is the largest professional society serving both clinicians and scientists around the world who are working to conquer blood diseases.
