Allegretti Wins Sherman Emerging Leader Prize

Jessica Allegretti, MD, MPH, director of the Fecal Transplant Program for the Division of Gastroenterology and director of Clinical Trials for the Crohn's and Colitis Center, won the $25,000 Sherman Emerging Leader Prize for her commitment to pushing the boundaries of medicine in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).  

The Sherman Emerging Leader Prize is awarded to an IBD professional who, while early in their career, has contributed to an advancement and shows great promise for significant future contributions.  

Allegretti, a gastroenterologist, is a highly regarded expert in establishing microbiota transplantation and microbiome therapeutics as an effective treatment in IBD patients with recurrent C. difficile infection, which can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon.  

The Sherman Prize was founded in 2016 by the Bruce and Cynthia Sherman Charitable Foundation to honor innovators from a variety of professional disciplines who have dedicated their careers to the fight to overcome IBD and represent Excellence in Crohn’s and Colitis in their chosen endeavors.
