Lorch Wins MGB United Against Racism Grant

Alice Lorch, MD, MPH

Alice Lorch, MD, MPH, of the Division of Ophthalmology, received a grant from Mass General Brigham’s (MGB) United Against Racism program, with additional support from the Mass General Executive Committee on Community Health, Digital Federal Credit Union and The Alcon Foundation, cumulatively over $400,000, to launch a pilot program to provide eye care to underserved communities.

United Against Racism is a systemwide initiative that seeks to address and eliminate racism across MGB and the communities it serves through social justice and equity-driven strategies. Lorch's pilot program will provide comprehensive ophthalmology care and disease screenings to underserved communities in the Boston area. Many patients in these communities do not have adequate access to eye care due to barriers, such as lack of transportation, time off from work or childcare.

In addition to her role at the Brigham, Lorch serves as director of the Ophthalmology Residency Training Program at Harvard Medical School and associate chief for Quality in the Department of Ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear.

MGB is committed to equity and antiracism in its culture, workforce, clinical care and partnerships with the communities it serves.
