Bates, Clark Awarded IBM Watson Health Academic Collaboration

David W. Bates, MD, MSc, FACMI Cheryl R. Clark, MD, ScD


David W. Bates, MD, MSc, FACMI, chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, and Cheryl R. Clark, MD, ScD, also of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, were awarded the IBM Watson Health Academic Collaboration: Health Equity Innovation and Accountability, a research and innovation contract that will encourage stakeholder organizations to prioritize goals and activities that improve equity in employee health.

This program will fund an effort to achieve health equity through innovative business strategies.

More broadly in his work at the Brigham, Bates focuses his research on patient safety and how to use information technology to improve care, quality of care, cost-effectiveness, and outcomes assessment in medical practice.

Clark is a hospitalist, and health equity researcher who focuses on social determinants of health as drivers of inequities in cardiovascular disease, cancer risk and health care utilization.

IBM is a leading multinational company that uses technology to create innovative solutions to critical problems worldwide, including those in the healthcare industry.
