Greka Named NAM 2021 Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Scholar

Anna Greka, MD, PhD, of the Renal Division and Founding Director of Kidney-NExT, was named a National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) 2021 Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine Scholar for her extraordinary work in renal medicine. Awarded scholars are exceptional early- to mid-career professionals poised to help shape the future of health and medicine.

Over the next three years, Greka will have the opportunity to collaborate with NAM and its members and partake in a variety of activities throughout the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to combat persistent challenges in health and medicine and to inspire transformative change.

Greka focuses her research on fundamental aspects of membrane protein biology, with the intention of illuminating basic mechanisms that have broad clinical impacts. To achieve her goals, Greka founded Kidney-NExT, a center at the Brigham with a mission to discover personalized and targeted treatments to cure kidney disease.

NAM is an independent organization of eminent professionals from diverse fields including health and medicine; the natural, social, and behavioral sciences; and beyond.
