Al-Mefty Wins Scoville Award from World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies

 

Ossama Al-Mefty, MD, of the Department of Neurosurgery, received the Scoville Award from the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). This award recognizes excellence and technical innovations in the field of neurosurgery.

Dedicated in memory of Dr. William Beecher Scoville, the award will be presented at the opening ceremony of the World Congress of Neurosurgery in Bogota, Columbia in March 2022.

Al-Mefty serves as the director of the Skull Base Program at the Brigham. His clinical and research interests are in the advancement of skull base surgery, with a focus on studying and defining the biological behavior of chordomas and meningiomas. Al-Mefty works to develop, teach, grow, and organize the skull base surgery discipline. 

The WFNS is a professional and scientific non-governmental organization comprised of 130 member societies, which represents more than 30,000 neurosurgeons. The WFNS promotes global improvement of neurosurgical training, care, and research.
