Butovsky Recognized as World Expert in Microglia

Oleg Butovsky, PhD, of the Department of Neurology, has been recognized as an Expertscape World Expert in Microglia. Expertscape’s PubMed-based algorithm granted Butovsky this distinction for ranking in the top 0.1% of scholars writing about Microglia over the past ten years.

Butovsky’s research primarily addresses fundamental questions about microglia, cells that remove damaged neurons from the body and are vital to maintaining a healthy central nervous system. His laboratory is actively developing new microglia-targeting therapies and aims to use them to treat neurological diseases like multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease.

Expertscape ranks physicians, researchers and institutions by their expertise in more than 27,000 biomedical topics. Rankings are based on scientific publications, and scores are assigned based on timeliness, article type, journal and author institution. These scores are then tallied up and published on Expertscape’s website.
