Gordon Schiff, MD, of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care and the Center for Patient Safety Practice and Research, received the 22nd Annual Avedis Donabedian Quality Award from the American Public Health Association Medical Care Section at the 149th annual national meeting in Denver. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to public health.
Schiff was recognized for his research in diagnosis and medical safety and his three decades of contributions to the quality improvement activities for the Medical Care Section of the APHA.
His research and quality improvement work focus on patient safety, diagnostic errors, test result follow-up, health IT, improving prescribing and formulary decision-making and promoting safer prescribing and diagnosis practices.
The Medical Care Section of the APHA was founded in 1948 and is guided by the public health ideal that we must act collectively as a society to assure conditions in which people can live healthy lives.
