George S.M. Dyer, MD, FACS

George S.M. Dyer, MD, FACS, of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, was named the inaugural incumbent of The Barry P. Simmons, MD, Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery during a celebration held on Nov. 10, 2022.

An orthopaedic surgeon at the Brigham and associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at Harvard Medical School, Dyer specializes in upper extremity trauma, arthritis surgery and in the complex, post-traumatic reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. The endowed chair will support Dyer’s work as an innovator and his efforts to help patients globally.

The distinguished chair was named in honor of Barry P. Simmons, MD, a long-time orthopaedic surgeon at the Brigham who helped shape the field and further solidified the hospital’s reputation as a leader in patient care, research and education.
