Stefan G. Tullius, MD, PhD, FACS, chief of the Division of Transplant Surgery, was named the inaugural incumbent of The Joseph E. Murray, MD, Distinguished Chair in Transplant Surgery during a celebration held on March 16.
This distinguished chair was established in honor of the late Joseph E. Murray, MD, a pioneer in the field of transplant surgery who performed the first-ever successful human organ transplant at the Brigham. The endowed chair will support Tullius’ work as an innovator and clinician-scientist helping patients around the world.
An internationally recognized expert in the field of transplantation immunology, Tullius is director of the Transplant Surgery Research Laboratory and a professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School. His current work focuses on rejuvenating organs for transplantation and immune responses to organ transplants, with a focus on age and biological sex.
