Lam, Mahmood Win HMS Young Mentor Awards

Miranda Lam, MD, MBA, of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Faisal Mahmood, PhD, of the Department of Pathology, received 2023 Young Mentor Awards from Harvard Medical School for their outstanding contributions to mentorship.

The Young Mentor Award is one of several Excellence in Mentoring Awards that HMS established to recognize the value of quality mentoring relationships and the impact they have on the professional development and career advancement in medicine, teaching, research and administration. Created in 2005, the Young Mentor Award honors HMS faculty who are still in the early stages of their career but are devoting their time to providing mentoring for others.

Lam, an assistant professor of Radiation Oncology at HMS and instructor in Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, specializes in treating sarcoma malignancies and gastrointestinal cancers. Her research focuses on health policy and health services research in cancer care.

Mahmood, a researcher in the Brigham’s Division of Computational Pathology and an associate professor of Pathology at HMS, focuses on using machine learning, data fusion and medical image analysis to develop streamlined workflows for cancer diagnosis, prognosis and biomarker discovery.
